Theatre Summary Sample: A Town's Pride and Joy
Goshen Theater, Goshen, IN
The Jefferson Theater opened in 1905, to the excitement of Goshen residents. The theater was named after Joseph Jefferson, a famous actor who died early in the year.
The dedication was attended by the governor and the attorney general, and the theater was a source of great pride for the city of Goshen.
Unfortunately, the theater was destroyed in a fire in 1906, almost a year after it opened. The Jefferson was rebuilt, and reopened a year later in October of 1907.
In 1948, the Jefferson was remodeled. It got new seats and a new V-shaped marquee. However, the name Jefferson couldn't fit on the sign. As a result, Jefferson theater became Goshen theater. Today, the former theater building serves as a church and remains a touchstone of the city.
